Why You Need To Slow Down To Speed Up (Thread)

Do you struggle to get started with a particular task?

Or don’t know what you are doing?

The powerful solution is the following:

Slow. It. Down.

Here is why: (Thread)

First a personal story:

Back in my high school years, I played professional guitar

I was eager to play all the fast solos but could not do it

My guitar teacher taught me then to take it very slowly, move each finger like a glacier

Only then was I allowed to speed up

When I followed his advice, the progress skyrocketed.

Once I was aware of all the tiny movements of each finger, speeding up was effortless

I was finally able to play fast because I was patient

This allowed me to play things like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I4kKbcyuGA

In work and life, it’s so easy to stress ourselves if something is taking longer time

You might think:

I’m not productive right now!”

It’s taking way too much time, and I’m too slow!”

“I don’t know what to do exactly, and I’m embarrassed because I SHOULD know it!”

This self-talk above results in unhealthy procrastination

Why? Because you don’t want to embarrass yourself

But if you are patient and observe, you will be aware of each tiny decision you can do.

And speed up naturally

When slowing down, do not worry about being productive at all

This comes later once you know what to do

Until then, it is much more important to get moving (although slowly) than try to be fast and stress yourself.

To recap:

If you want to do something new and get started, be patient.

Slow down as much as you possibly can

You have to get moving before you optimize

Only speed up when you are more comfortable
