There is a lot of good information out there regarding note-taking.

But note-taking ultimately comes down to two activities:

  • Write down information at a trusted place
  • Reliably retrieve information when needed

Write down information at a trusted place

Today, we are faced with more information than our brains can handle at once.

Fortunately, by writing down information, ideas, or insights at a trusted place, we ensure that the information is not lost. Thus we can safely forget it for now until it becomes relevant.

Forgetting is what our brains are designed for. We are evolved to focus on one thing at a time and temporarily block everything else.

This is what note-taking allows us to do, giving us the peace of mind we deserve.

Reliably retrieve information when needed.

Different note-taking apps have different solutions for this.

In my experience, however, there are 3 main methods for finding the note you need. These methods are universal across all note-taking apps.
