Regardless of what job you have, you can always make it a game that you want to play.

The “work-is-play” mindset has significant benefits. Neuroscience attributes play to greater amounts of peak performance and optimal learning. Furthermore, you will always win in the end if you enjoy the day-to-day work, while others do not.

Below are three strategies to gamify your work. If you already love playing games and sports, you are at an advantage.

Know Your Short-term and Long-term objectives

A game is fun if the objective is meaningful to you and there is some uncertainty in the process.

Therefore, ask yourself why you are pursuing this job. Is this your dream calling or a stepping stone towards it? Write down your ideal day-to-day life, and then ask how your current reality can help you towards it.

You want to see your entire career as the ultimate game, with job titles as worlds and levels you want to master. By mapping out and updating the game, you will feel a greater sense of meaning whatever you do.

Identify and track your metrics
